Coming this Summer to Plaza Midwood will be a unique and exciting take on the ever-popular brewery scene. Pour Taproom, the area’s first self-serve taproom, will open later this Summer and will offer 120 varieties of beer. Half of the taps will be reserved for North Carolina breweries, the other half for national and international favorites.
Pour Taproom has three other North Carolina locations (Wilmington, Durham, and Asheville), and each one is individually owned and operated. “Plaza Midwood is such a cool location for a taproom like this,” Owner James Lunney says.
And cool it is! Pour is overtaking a historic building in Plaza Midwood. The nearly 7,000 square foot building is circa 1945 and has worn a lot of different hats over the years, operating at various times as a bakery, church, and warehouse. The design will take full advantage of the building’s unique exposed brick, industrial beams, and original windows.
Unsure of how a self-serve tap works? Here’s the gist: after patrons are ID’d for legal drinking age, they’re given a card with a QR code to scan at each tap that’s linked to their bar tab. Once scanned, the tap is activated and will pour up to 32-ounces before needing to be scanned again. Customers pay by the ounce so you can sample all the different offerings or stick to your tried-and-true favorite.
A rotating selection and seasonal offerings will be available. Expect local brews, international favorites, as well as taps for water, root beer, prosecco, and red and white wines. What do you think? Will you visit Pour Taproom when it opens in Plaza Midwood later this year? Comment below!
