The weather is quickly warming up and the trees and flowers are out in full bloom! Nice weather brings so many opportunities to spend outdoors. First Ward Park is just the place to do that! One of the best things about living in Charlotte is our fine weather, and for transplants, this is always a huge selling point. Those of us who’ve grown up here always realize just how spoiled we are when visiting other places.
For those of you looking for a fun free afternoon, go check out First Ward Park located right on the edge of uptown Charlotte. In many ways it can be considered a hidden gem because you can always find space if you’re looking to relax while reading a book, need space to run with the kids, or want to enjoy a picnic. First Ward has a large green space, benches and other seating areas, a fitness area, and an awesome climbing structure for kids.
After Memorial Day, the splash pad will open which is always a hit. If you have kids we suggest visiting Imaginon Library right across the street (they will also validate parking for 1.5 hours + $2 hour each hour after), then head over to the park for a picnic!
If you want to enjoy a bite to eat or simply need to grab the perfect local gift, go check out 7th Street Public Market next to ImaginOn (parking also available). Our favorite is the BLT from Local Loaf! And we can’t get enough of the maple egg and cheese crepes at Hazelnuts Creperie.
Beginning June 1st and running through September, First Ward Park has an awesome line up of free outdoor concerts. Let us know what you think after your visit and be sure to tag us on FB and Instagram!
