Father’s Day is this Sunday, June 17th and you may be wondering what in the world Dad would like. Truth is, holidays like Mother’s and Father’s Day can be just as memorable and special for the kids! It’s a way to instill in them while they’re young the idea of appreciation, thankfulness, and gratitude. While giving gifts like handmade crafts, socks, or a new tie can still be memorable, going out for an experience can be used as a “happiness anchor” in the minds and memories of children. And they serve for a pretty fun afternoon for parents as well!
Charlotte Five detailed their top 9 experiences to treat Dad to this Sunday. Read on to discover 5 of their ideas!
- Water sports with My Aloha
Shore-up on sunny Lake Norman and let My Aloha hook you up with an afternoon of kayaking or stand-up paddleboarding. It’s easy and fun for the whole family. Book a 90-minute or longer session and My Aloha will throw in a 30-minute tutorial session for free. Reservations are recommended!
- Ride-along with the Richard Petty Driving Experience
Go fast with the Richard Petty Driving Experience! Reservations are required for this amazing opportunity to experience true Nascar speeds. Whether it’s behind-the-wheel or as a ride-along, Dad will love the thrill of speeding around a racetrack without threat of getting a ticket. Younger kids can participate in the Junior Ride-Along as long as they are 4-feet tall.
- Hike at McDowell Nature Preserve
For free family fun, plan on enjoying a stroll through McDowell Nature Preserve. This nature center and preserve boasts 1,100 acres of wooded terrain all along the banks of Lake Wylie and great fishing on Copperhead Island. (Don’t let the name scare you!) The preserve is only open 1-5p on Sundays, so plan accordingly.
- Queen City Jazz Festival
Take the whole family along to experience the best of local and national Jazz. Tickets are already available through Ticketmaster– opt for the relaxation and general un-fussiness of lawn seats. Kick back, relax, and let parent and child alike discover their new favorite musicians!
- Charlotte Independence Soccer
Technically taking place on Saturday, watch the USL Premier Development League take on the Charleston Battery. The games are played in Matthews, right next to their new brewery, Seaboard Brewing. Treat Dad to a pint beforehand, or plan to stay after the game to enjoy fireworks!
