Charlotte’s Belmont neighborhood is soon to be home to the Queen City’s newest brewery, Catawba Brewing Company. Catawba Brewing already has a main production facility in Morganton as well as two other locations in Asheville. The new Charlotte location will occupy approximately 10,000 square feet of space at 933 South Avenue, in the same building as Advent Coworking and Codescape.
At the new location, 4,000 square feet will house the ten-barrel brew system that the company is moving in from Morganton, and 6,000 square feet will be dedicated to the tap room. The brew system will allow the brewery to not only brew their core beers but also small batch and experimental beers.
Catawba Brewing, whose original location opened in 1999, has plans to tie in their outdoor focus with Charlotte’s city views from the new location’s taproom and patio. The company has grown significantly over the past 17 years and has certainly become a mainstay among beer selections across Charlotte. As evidence of their recent growth, the brewery produced 1,000 barrels in 2012, compared with approximately 11,000 barrels this year. Catawba is looking forward to being an active member of the Queen City’s growing and thriving beer scene. The company intends to create a brewery that combines a few of the boutique characteristics that can be found at their Asheville locations with some of the larger scale production and distribution qualities that can be found in their Morganton location.
The brewery will offer fantastic skyline views of Uptown, and will also include a space for private events. The company plans to hire approximately 20 to 25 employees, and with a March 2017 opening, the excitement is definitely brewing.
